Spring 2023 I am enjoying my first ever sabbatical. I will be working on an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) experience on the theme of enticing and luring, attention grabbing, and having to give something up when we give in to the attraction.
Distracting obstacles will need to be overcome. Analogous to most interactions on the internet, what lures you in only serves to move you towards giving something up: data, money, or, at a minimum, valuable time. I do not yet what know shape or form the price you pay is going to take in this project.
Motion capture will be used to create the movements that invite the user to go to a place. Sound will heighten the feeling of being invited to a place.
I will be spending two months in Columbus, Ohio, as a Visiting Fellow at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) at The Ohio State University. The project is a collaboration with Kyoung Swearingen, Scott Swearingen, and Vita Berezina-Blackburn, and the rest of the ACCAD community.
I will be posting updates on my blog, under the tag Inviting Motion
